The joys of family photoshoots

I’ve had the pleasure of doing loads of family portrait shoots lately and I always come away absolutely full of joy for the creativity of children and the beauty of how love-filled the gestures are between parents and their kids. I am particularly fond of capturing little hands being held by big ones, or a perfectly squishy cheek being kissed. There’s never any need to manufacture these moments, parents do them naturally, practically every other minute. I’m just lucky I get to hover around capturing them.

Love: Moments like this are never far away on family shoots

My shoots often involve wandering around one of Leeds’ many gorgeous parks, which are a moving feast of colours and light throughout the seasons. You will never go to the same Roundhay, Meanwood, or Middleton Park twice. There’s always something new to find there, especially if you’re a little human with boundless energy.

Middleton Park: Freezing that perfect 'top of the world' moment on a see-saw

My style is described as documentary style, or candid. That means that I tend to let you go about your business and simply go with the flow, joining in with hide-and-seek if I’m needed, so that the photos you receive are a true representation of your unique family vibe. That being said, I can put my director’s hat on in pursuit of a beautiful shot for your mantelpiece, but my utmost concern is your comfort and happiness - which means plenty of inane chit chat. If we don’t come away knowing one another’s family trees and the names of all of our childhood pets, I will be surprised.

Playing in the garden: You don't need to go far for professional, fun photos.
